With the recent loss of life in the SBS Ireland User Group, we went looking for a big bang way to get some life back into this group. So here it is, to get in the chance to win one of two TechNet Subscriptions all you have to so is be a registered member on the website and post 10 or more posts. They could be questions, thoughts, or answers to others question. That is it, give a little and get a little. The website is http://www.sbsireland.com Thanks David

With the nearly available release of SBS 2008 RC0, there will be a less restrictive Non Disclosure Agreement. What does that mean? There will be a lot of solid concrete information coming from those that have been Beta testing, and there will be a chance to sign up to view the release candidate. Just remember you need a 64 Bit server to run this!!! Have a good one. David

- What is a CAL?
- Why do I need CALS as I own the server software and the operating system on my computer?
- What type of CALs can be used in SBS?
- How many CALs can you have in SBS?
- What is the Difference between User and Device CALs?
- Can I have both User and Device CALs with SBS?
A CAL is a client access license, a cal is a license for you to connect to resources on computers or on a computer network. Even though you may own the operating system on the Server and your Workstation, you still need to buy the right for your computer to connect to your server. With SBS you can have two types of CALS, one is a User CAL, and the other is a Device CAL. In SBS you can have up to a total of 75 CALs. A Device license allows one computer to have multiple users use ...

A couple fo questions that have appeared about MVPs: - What is an MVP?
- Are they employees of Microsoft?
- What do you get if you become an MVP?
- How can I become an MVP?
- How can I support the community?
A MVP is a Microsoft Valued Professional, these are individuals who have been awarded by Microsoft for supporting the community. No an MVP is not connected with Microsoft in any way other than they have been awarded for giving their time free to help their peers. When you become an MVP you get very little, you get some gifts from Microsoft to say thank you, but when you think of the huge number of unpaid hours that are given freely, emails from people you do not know to reply to their smallest request for help, it pales in comparison. To become an MVP you need to be seen to be supporting the community, eith ...

There have been a few requests for topics at the next event, including SBS 2008, Windows Essentials Server, and a fair few others If you have a preferred topic send it to me at david@partneroutreach.comer But one other topic that has been suggested is "What happens to my business if I am struck by a bus!" The reason that this has been raised is that with my now 5 month stay in hospital, if the company had not been prepared and set up properly, with all the right process and procedures, the business would have closed down, but instead, even as a young company it is going from strength to strength. Even though we are a small company, we invested in ourselves to make sure we could survive any issue. Now for the request for help, i am looking to find out if people are interested and what they would like to see covered. When I have the feedback I will setup a LiveMeeting that is open to ...

Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Conference or SBS Migration's New Orleans IT Pro Conference two very important events that are geared towards the SMB IT Consultant. But here is the think, if you could only go to one event which would it be? For me it would be the SBS Migration event, Why? Well the main reason is Jeff Middleton, the guy behind Swing Migration, he is one of those that gives endlessly to the small business IT community, and thank you for that Jeff. But also the long list of top notch presenters. I have gotten to know many of them through Yahoo groups or through other Community groups. The wealth of knowledge that this group has, I am humbled! And tat is not all! One of the greatest gifts that this event has is the ...
